Second day in the Caribbean ... el día de los dos profesores!

We start our day with a visit to the modern art museum of Cartagena. For me the confirmation of what I discovered already one week before in Bogota... this country and this continent is not only about high level music, dance... It confirms its extremely talented novelists and poets in its paintings and sculptures... It's not only the burning sun that knocks you down but also the latent presence of an artistic breeze coming from the sea and invading the streets and squares of this country and further into the continent. Seeing a shy Luis Caballero in Cartagena after the explosion of male erotism in his Bogota paintings. Alejandro Obregon and local Enrique Grau ...

Later we visit NH GALERIA Centro, Plaza de la Artilleria, Esq Callejon de los Estribos,  Gallery of contemporary art close to the wall with a.o a fantastic Olga de Amaral fiber art work, Ruby Rumie's Getsemani: Objeto - Sujeto and Codigo de Barrio - and I realize that Paris London and New York are not exclusive anymore in presenting modern art and contemporary artists... I'm in Cartagena de Indias, on the Caribbean watching great Contemporary Art.

With a colorful chiva, in the big city's a curiosity but in the villages still a common transport vehicle baptized with all kind of nicknames we are ready now to visit the most important places of the city. My Pura Vida agents managed to arrange a guide who will also speak English. We could imagine him in front of a classroom and certainly later when he was counting the effectives to see if everybody was on board the title of professor was easily accorded to him. Imagine our surprise when a bit later another guide came on board while loading a flog of Argentinians and Chileans, (OMG...They invade the country!) our fears for another disappointing guide adventure seemed unjustified when the new professor started to talk a most perfect English.

So supervised by two professors we made a city tour from the Old Shoes sculpture based on the poem entitled “My Old Shoes” by Colombian-born Luis Carlos López through a chiva roller coaster experience to the Convento de la Popa ( highest point + 150 m. of the city and named after the back side of a ship) and a super tour of the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas (only the Madrid airport shares the same name). El profesor Dos gave us all the personal attention we needed and with him the construction of the fort seemed taking place there on the same moment as he spoke.
 El profesor Dos!
A very satisfactory day that ends with a dinner and drinks on one of the squares in the old city enveloped in the warmth of the night. My room is fresh and my mind cold as ice when I go to bed. Why?... I' m having a wonderful time with people I love.... Why don't I allow myself to relax and just enjoy? Exhausted I sleep.
